February 2021
The North West Nuclear Arc team are continuing to work hard to support new investment in the nuclear sector in North West England and North Wales. Key areas for us are to support the siting of large build, SMRs and AMRs within the Arc and to make the case for nuclear as an essential part of the production of green hydrogen.

A series of meetings with SMR and AMR vendors are taking place this Spring to engage and inform key stakeholders.

Chwefror 2021
Mae tîm Arc Niwclear y Gogledd Orllewin yn parhau i weithio’n galed i gefnogi buddsoddiad newydd yn y sector niwclear yng ngogledd orllewin Lloegr a gogledd Cymru. Y meysydd allweddol i ni yw cefnogi lleoli adeiladau mawr, adweithyddion modiwlar bach ac adweithyddion modiwlar uwch yn y rhanbarth ac eirioli dros niwclear fel rhan hanfodol o gynhyrchu hydrogen gwyrdd.

Cynhelir cyfres o gyfarfodydd gyda gwerthwyr adweithyddion modiwlar bach ac adweithyddion modiwlar uwch y gwanwyn hwn er mwyn ennyn ymroddiad a darparu gwybodaeth i randdeiliaid allweddol

Celebrating 70 years of Apprentice Training at Springfields, for UK National Apprentice Week 2021

Nuclear Sector Hydrogen Roadmap

The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) have produced a Nuclear Sector Hydrogen Roadmap highlighting the range of opportunities from nuclear co-generation. The report made a number of key recommendations but the initial call is for the whole industry – across energy, nuclear, renewables, transmission and beyond – to work together to tackle the challenge of achieving the UK’s hydrogen ambitions as part of net zero.

Map Ffordd Hydrogen y Sector Niwclear

Mae Cymdeithas y Diwydiant Niwclear wedi cynhyrchu map ffordd hydrogen i’r sector niwclear, sy’n tynnu sylw at yr amrywiaeth o gyfleoedd sydd ar gael i gyd-gynhyrchu niwclear. Mae’r adroddiad yn cynnwys nifer o argymhellion allweddol ond yr alwad gychwynnol yw i’r diwydiant cyfan – ynni, niwclear, ynni adnewyddadwy, trosglwyddo ynni a thu hwnt – weithio gyda’i gilydd i ymdrin â’r her o gyflawni uchelgeisiau hydrogen y Deyrnas Unedig fel rhan o sero-net.

The Naked Scientists podcast

Dr Michael Rushton of the Nuclear Futures Institute at Bangor University appeared on The Naked Scientists podcast in February. The podcase examined whether nuclear power is essential in today’s world. The nuclear industry within the United Kingdom is seeing a large amount of development in current times, Michael describes why he believes that it is so important that the industry continues to operate into the future.

Podlediad y Naked Scientists

Ymddangosodd Dr Michael Rushton o’r Sefydliad Dyfodol Niwclear ym Mhrifysgol Bangor ar bodlediad y Naked Scientists ym mis Chwefror. Roedd y podlediad yn trafod a yw ynni niwclear yn hanfodol yn y byd sydd ohoni. Mae llawer o ddatblygiadau’n digwydd yn y diwydiant niwclear yn y Deyrnas Unedig ar hyn o bryd, ac mae Michael yn disgrifio pam ei fod yn credu bod rhaid i’r diwydiant barhau i weithredu yn y dyfodol.

An important member of the NWNA team retires!

Ken McEwan, who has been involved in NWNA from its infancy in 2018 is retiring. Ken worked for Sellafield for 30 years before seconding to the Cumbria LEP where he helped bring the Cumbrian focus for the NWNA partnership. We welcome Ian Wheeler to the NWNA team from the Cumbria LEP and wish Ken all the best with his retirement!

Aelod pwysig o dîm NWNA yn ymddeol!

Mae Ken McEwan, sydd wedi bod yn rhan o NWNA ers ei sefydlu yn 2018, yn ymddeol. Gweithiodd Ken i Sellafield am 30 mlynedd cyn cael ei secondio i Cumbria LEP lle bu’n helpu i hyrwyddo safbwynt Cumbria ym mhartneriaeth NWNA. Rydym yn croesawu Ian Wheeler i dîm NWNA o LEP Cumbria ac yn dymuno’r gorau i Ken gyda’i ymddeoliad!

  • The NWNA team are developing a NWNA Technology Brochure to highlight all the opportunities within the arc – this will expand upon the NWNA maps which can be found on the NWNA website https://nwna.co.uk/
  • Mae tîm NWNA yn datblygu llyfryn technoleg i dynnu sylw at yr holl gyfleoedd yn yr arc – bydd hyn yn ehangu ar y mapiau sydd i’w gweld ar wefan NWNA https://nwna.co.uk/
